On the bench today we have the SQUIER CLASSIC VIBE BARITONE CUSTOM TELECASTER.
This has to be one of the most interesting guitars I have looked at in a while. I have so many questions.
First, the guitar is somewhat heavier than a normal telecaster made by Squier. I wanted to see what was contributing to this. The guitar weighs in at 8 pounds and 6 ounces or 3.824 kilos. Not as heavy as I thought.
One observation is the weight does not seem to be centered in the body but balanced throughout the guitar.
The strings are HUGE. I am installing a set of Ernie Ball Mammoth Slinky strings that measure at 12, 16, 24w, 34, 48, and 62. My normal strings that I install on a guitar are 10 to 47 in size. The scale length of needs a larger set of strings than the typical Fender guitar with only a scale length of 25 inches.
In the video I hold up a 47 size string next to a size 62 for comparison.
I removed the neck because I wanted to weigh the neck and body separately. I also wanted to compare the baritone neck side by side with a Squier 25 inch scale telecaster neck.
The baritone neck weighs 1 pound and 12 ounces while the typical Squier telecaster neck only weighs 1 pound and 3 ounces.
I know, this is turning into a Weight Watchers meeting with all of the scale work. Sorry.
Next I weight the baritone loaded body and a Squier loaded body for comparison. The baritone body weighs in at 6 pounds and 7 ounces where a Squier loaded body only weighs 5 pounds and 1 ounce.
The electronics and pickups look like typical Squier made fare.
When I plug in a multi meter to the output jack I measure the neck pickup at 7.37 k ohms, the middle position of 3.7 k ohms and the bridge pickup at 7.2 k ohms. Kind of different for a bridge pickup to measure less than the neck on a telecaster. Just an observation.
Some of the specifications for the guitar.

This is the wildest sounding guitar I have played in a long while. You really need to listen to the sample tracks for yourself to see what I mean.
I tuned the guitar to B E A D G flat and B which seems to be a common tuning for a Baritone type guitar.
I remember it as BEAD Great Britain. Sorry, still have Elephants And Donkeys Grow Big Ears stuck in my head from being a gid learning how to tune a guitar.
