Liam Gallagher Trash Talks Blur (1995)

On 14 August 1995, Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher voiced his opinion on Oasis' Britpop rival, Blur. The so-called "Battle of Britpop" saw both bands competing for the number 1 space in the charts after Blur moved to drop "Country House" on the same date that Oasis released "Roll With It". Rarely humble in his public utterances, Liam Gallagher dismissed Blur as "chimney sweeping music", while Blur's Damon Albarn took a more cautious approach in his statement, admitting to being "a little nervous" and praising both bands for having "upped the stakes". In the end, Blur would win the chart battle, with Country House becoming the band's first number one single.

Will always prefer blur. Way more musical and their songs just meant more to me. Oasis great too. Great Melodie’s but their songs aren’t really about anything. The lyrics are mostly non sensical. Still great songwriters and bad ass on stage.
Britain had some awesome bands in the 80s and 90s that’s for sure

Damon was (and is) so much more gracious about the whole thing. True hero!

It seems mad to dismiss blur as chimney sweep music given how broad their musical map is. I was listening to the live at the Budokan record today which was recorded back in ‘95 just after the Great escape came out and there was nothing around at the time that even came close to songs like He Thought of Cars or Yoko and Hiro. Oasis were fine but they stuck very much to their musical lane whereas blur were far more adventurous.

And look at what Damon has done since Blur: Gorillaz, The good the bad and the Queen, Rocket Juice and the Moon, and a collaboration album with the legend Bobby Womack. Liam however, Beady Eye!
Say no more.

Damon was so beautiful to look at back then, but Liam had that bad boy thing going on. I had posters of both on my wall. I loved both bands and was torn!!!❤❤

Blur was always the better band especially on a technical level, but they're both very different styles. I always loved both...

Liam acting like Oasis is the essence of rock & roll is embarrassing.

Isn't it funny how when talking Damon has a very clear elocution and I can't understand a word Liam's saying, but when they are singing it's the other way around!😂

Blur's music is infinitely more intetesting. Liam talks utter nonsense but his brothers songs are so good.
