I was on Carnivore for months, when I began getting charlie horses on my calf muscles and toes. I actually was drinking a lot of coffee so stopped, and the cramps went away.

I’ve been on carnivore for over a year, and have never had cramps in my legs! I went on it, because of gout! Haven’t had another attack since! My swelling in my legs and feet went away, lost over 40 lbs and went from a 52” waist to a 41” waist! Pretty impressive for a 78 year old 100% disabled veteran, that spends most of my time in an electric recliner! Sometimes, patience is the key! We didn’t get obese overnight, and we won’t undo years of damage overnight! This is not a miracle diet, it’s a lifestyle change! Between seed oil & sugar in our food and drinks, it’s going to take patience. I just know I’m feeling better at 78, than I did at 76. And I will feel better at 79, than now! I could have given up, and just been a couple of years older, now, with worse health! Fact is, our food supply is definitely working against our health! You have to research everything you are told, and research the researchers, to find out who’s financing the research! Patience! It will work out for you!

Dammit all! I’ve been on carnivore for like 8 months now. Only negative I’ve experienced were insane cramps in my calves, so I started supping mag glycinate and they went away entirely. However… I drink a shit ton of coffee. I had no idea. The more you know 🙏

I've stopped coffee, thank goodness. Still struggling to be consistent with carnivore but eventually I'll get there. I'm about 80% of the way there.

🎉🎉🎉 the last hurdle I have is the comfort of coffee. This just drove the message home. Thanks again

Quitting caffeine was hands down the best decision of my life. Everything improved after that. That stuff is a straight up drug. Oh and the sleep! Damn - I can’t explain the deep sleep - it’s like luxury.

Carnivore for 9 months now. Cramps almost every morning. I drink a LOT of coffee, but I dont want to put it down, so I supplement with magnesium and my cramps went away.

If I have to give up coffee, might as well just give up on life 😂

Greetings Dr. Chaffee, thank you for all you have done for the community, I have learned so much from you and other caring people. As for the cramps I’ve tried most suggestions including a few different types of magnesium, potassium, and boron to name a few. I am a retired Radiology and CT Tech; I live in NY with winters and in March I started seeing a new Neurologist for an old back injury as the cramps worsened; the previous Doctor retired. I had the typical tests and an MRI; she is actually like the Doctors in the community with her approach. We discussed my test results and Magnesium yet again. I started adding it in a mineral water bottle along with potassium and drank it throughout the day as a time release supplement rather than a one-time dose, I am home most of the time. I Thought as a Carnivore we do not hold water as a result of less sugar and maybe I was dehydrating by the next morning. The magnesium schedule did help somewhat as did stretching knowing the muscle capsule does tighten as we age, I tore one about 20 years ago. I saw her a month later after I spent a lot of time in the park trying to purposely tan and I also use the exercise equipment offered. And again, I saw her in May and in June, the random night cramps were mostly gone other than positional, especially when I sleep laterally with both my legs together with calves touching, etc. I told the Neurologist and we started talking about the magnesium which was not a first time try. By the time I saw her in Late June I had a significant tan and I pointed to my arm and she said “Vitamin D”. By the end of the summer, I had the best tan ever. I have just started taking the D3, 2,000 IU’s that she recommended in June if I were to start supplementing, but she said just wait and see, the cramps are still in control; there is 1,000 IU’s also in my multivitamin. What I also tried over the summer was to eat higher D3 fish which seemed to help but I tried that last winter too with a different fish; I am not a fish eater and grew up on my Italian ethnic food.
Best wishes,
Vin

I have had leg cramps before and fixed the problem but now starting Carnivore I have them again and I learned I had to start supplementing with potassium. I needed to have more salt.

Well, I’ve developed leg cramps since getting close to carnivore. I really upped my sodium, maybe too much. A week ago I cut back on sodium and added magnesium and potassium. I guess I need to cut out all coffee and all other forms of caffeine, maybe just water with a small amount of sodium, potassium, magnesium & calcium and see what happens 🤷🏼‍

I ran into that a lot where counselors are seeing mostly healthy people in their practices. Most folks just want to lose a little body fat and that is pretty much the extent of their issues. Solving specific problems for the rest of us can be a real challenge because theoretically you're an exception to the rule if you are ill. You may have to get seen privately to get your answers for any particular serious medical issue with Carnivore. That can be a problem for a lot of folks because not every doctor is on board with the real science over consensus science. Even though I'm educated in the field, it took me quite a while to find the truth regarding my own serious chronic condition and how carnivore can affect it. But I did find my answers particularly with Dr Bickman's metabolic YouTube lectures.
