It took me years to realize Frank was right. Tony never learned any of his lessons. He literally broke all of them. Then he wanted to sleep with his wife since the day he met her. So no loyalty either. Yeah sure, Frank was soft. That was his Way. That's how he stayed under the radar, he didn't attract Feds, he didn't attract other crime families because he wasn't seen as a threat, BUT they also didn't mess with him because his Charisma got him into the good graces of many Important people, both politcal and criminal. Frank lasted so long because he figured a way to live by a code, have fun doing it but Not over indulge, not go into War with anyone and not underestimate anyone. Frank wasn't even the richest because he knew too Much wealth would bring more issues, so he even kept a cap on his wealth. He didn't Want to be Richer and More powerful, he was the complete opposite of Tony. He liked Tony a lot and saw the hustler in him but when Frank saw Tony as a real threat, he did so by squeezing him but Not killing him by putting Mel on him. So that Tony can be under control and keep things stable, instead Tony got even crazier and openly disrespected Frank in front of his people by trying to flirt with his wife and then squaring up on him. At that severe point, Frank realized that Tony needed to be killed. He was WAY too gone and too dangerous, it was honestly the right logical move. Nothing Frank did was irrational or a mistake. Franks' biggest mistake was not putting everything towards getting Tony whacked. He took it too lightly and was back at home having fun and drinking with Mel. He should've been on High Alert and at some hide out until he got confirmation Tony was dead.

The only reason why people don’t see this as a betrayal is because he is the main character of the movie.

When he says, “ Manolo, Choot that piece of chit, “ it brings back so many memories of little me and my dad watching Scarface together for the first time. Thank you for posting this, it brought back memories of my dad and I when I was in fourth grade watching as well as reacting to this movie together.

Tony's never feared Frank, he only wanted to learn from him while getting on his feet.
Once that was accomplished there was no further need to show respect as he always viewed Frank as soft
