Tesla is enabling unsupervised Full Self Driving (FSD) this year (June 2025) in Austin. There are 1.2 to 1.5 million HW4-equipped Teslas (#autonomousvehicles) on US roads as of May 2025, with an additional 600,000 HW4 vehicles added annually (roughly 50,000 per month). All these cars have the hardware required to be a robotaxi.
Tesla cars have driven over 3 billion miles on #teslafsd (#autonomousdriving).

In autonomous vehicles, photon counting is increasingly adopted to
address glare challenges. Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) system,
as of June 2025, leverages direct photon counting,
reportedly achieving 16x better dynamic range with 12-bit raw
photon counts, improving low-light performance and glare handling .
Academic research further validates these findings. The paper "Vision without the Image" explores photon-counting sensors for low-light visual
recognition, crucial for autonomous vehicle safety, suggesting photon-efficient algorithms that could extend to glare mitigation.

Oh yeah, so cool it sees a stop sign floating in the middle of the road.
Why don't we talk about how it identifies the school bus (the most easily identifiable vehicle in North America) as, initially, a commercial truck and, moments later, thinks it's a pickup truck? How it misses the alternating flashing lights on the bus (another indicator that it is indeed a school bus and that it would be illegal to pass while those lights are alternating) and places the stop sign far past the pickup truck it thinks the bus is because it thinks there's no way there would be a stop sign attached to the side of any type of vehicle on the road?

Nice try, but it has to do that every time and the tests are already out showing it doesn't always stop for the school bus.

Just as humans can easily identify faces and certain threats, I feel like school buses need to be something easily identified, as opposed to just "truck". Good thing it caught the sign though.
