aside from obvious undergarments & shoes, why not if affordable. I think things like suits, tuxedos, or traditional garbs would be perfect for this service

My travel buddy is a bit larger framed, so I hope this would work for him. But, I think a combination of lightweight travel clothing that I can wash in the sink plus rentals would be fantastic. It would reduce my luggage load, and I could try something Practical and in styles that would fit in in Japan. I did do an almost 2 week trip to Alaska, to Denali and then a cruise, and used nylon travel clothes.

I do like the idea, but considering I have enough trouble finding properly fitting clothes back home, I wouldn't want to gamble that in Japan. I mean, just finding a T-shirt that fits is pretty hard in Japan....

This is actually a great idea. Especially when traveling across climate zones, all you need to do is rent what you will need for the season you arrive in.
