Events That Led To The Giant Short Faced Bear's Extinction

The giant short faced bear, also known as Arctodus Simus was once North America's Largest carnivore, having a size greater than a polar bear. This documentary short outlines the extinction of the short faced bear, sometimes called the short nosed bear. In media, the short faced bear has been made famous by Joe Rogan, but sadly the short faced bear skeleton is all we have of them. The extinction of the short faced bear is unsurprising as they were facing competition from the smaller grizzly bear and polar bear. Additionally, much of the mega fauna they likely fed on had recently gone extinct, and it may have even been possible that new human inhabitants competed with them for food as well. These things happening all at once was a perfect storm that led to the giant short faced bears going extinct. It is counterintuitive as one would think that when it comes to a short faced bear vs polar bear, the short faced bear would win. However, black bears are the best suited to modern day North America and bears such as the grizzly bear are restricted to denser forested areas. A short faced bear sighting would be amazing but today, the polar bear currently reins as North America's largest carnivorous mammal and anything bigger would not be able to sustain itself. I am glad Joe Rogan has made the short faced bear famous through his Joe Rogan Experience (JRE) podcast because they are amazing creatures everyone should know about.

To think, humans with sticks and stones would ever challenge a grizzly. Let alone this mammoth sized bear is just incredible.
Testosterone must of been at its peak during those days.

Fun fact: Short faced bears were so powerful that humans didn't even dare to attack them. Thus making them one of the few species that didn't went extinct because of humans.

You know the South American short faced bear was twice the size of a fully grown polar bear and had very long limbs like a big cat wich makes it the quickest bear in history and was 3500 lbs it was the biggest and strongest of its time and yes it loved hunting and eating mammoths it was at the top of the food chain and were fully carnivorous the short faced bear is what stopped people crossing through south America and Asia people would avoid it when crossing so I don’t think they would hunt this big gatekeeper to death ☠️ it most likely died lacking food recourses cause lots of animals died because of climate change.

Bruh them people near the 1600s and below we’re going through a lot, and on top of that having giant creatures like this mammoth sized bear, mammoth, megaladon, kraken, and much more just insane and even more insane to think about before slavery which was going on for a while (100+ years) and everything before that like mid times, pirate times, Greek times, tribes, and much more. Since I like to think about how the world would be when I’m gone I’m imagining what people imagined near when people started coming to life on this planet and how how or what they thought the work would be now

A regular grizzly is already incredibly strong and a dangerous killing machine. Can’t imagine another. Bear twice the size of that roaming around the area. Why would any of those humans wanna live near those areas lol
