Saying that the core tenets of Christianity aren't affected by the textual variants is very different from saying the Bible hasn't been tampered with.

The Bible has been edited. Books have been changed or taken out entirely. There are different translations too.

The Catholic Church did a load of edits to the bible. Also, yeah, no surprise that the core central ideas haven't been changed. You argued that the bible hasn't been changed at all, all that the "scholar" said is that the core idea is still there.

Sorry James but the Bible has been altered, there are quite a few differences in word changes going from the Greek to the English translations.
I believe the majority of it is probably pretty accurate, but starting in the third century the Catholic Church change some of it when they made their own version from the grey into the Latin Vulgate.
further translations were made from the Latin Vulgate.
When looking up certain words in the Strong's concordance, I've seen as high as 50 different words used for 1 word in the Greek.
Most of the translation problems with the Bible is with these preachers today, they make it say and match what their preconceived beliefs already are.
Just like with believing in dispensationalism, those beliefs came from the Scofield reference Bible from the commentators.
These English translations are not the God breathed scriptures Paul was referring to.
Remember that this Bible we have today didn't even exist in Paul's day.

We still have no originals and have no idea what that said. So let's assume the bible is untampered with - that still does not prove a god.
