Our minds are far more powerful than we realize and I say this as a college educated materialist (although I’m starting to become skeptical of materialism). For example, I just read a study that shows our names and what we think of our names can change our physiognomy. Another example: as we get into advanced age, we typically start to lose our will to live - to accomplish things, to explore, to learn, etc. - and somehow this may have an impact on when we die. There are so many things about our minds we don’t yet know

Surely we can, Hilton Hotema wrote books on these subjects. The latest - Long Life in Florida is supposedly the most comprehensive one.

Back when I was a kid I distinctly remember seeing a group of people dressed in 80s fitness attire on Wogan or similar popular talkshow talking about how this group intended to stop ageing simply by positive thinking. They stated that there was no scientific reason why humans should get old and they intended to prove it conclusively in some community group experiment...but I think it didn't work and they are either old or dead now
