First, if you’re with other people, politely excuse yourself and go somewhere with access to a sink and paper towels. If the stain is also on your hands, wash them first.
Remove as much of the stain as you can by blotting the stained area with a clean paper towel. Don’t rub! You might accidentally work the stain in deeper.
If feasible, remove the stained garment and run a trickle of cool water through it from the back.
Then, keep blotting until the area is mostly dry to the touch.
Note: don’t do this for ink or grease stains, as you might make the stain bigger.
Even if the stain isn’t fully removed, this quick action will make the full cleaning process much easier.

I cut my finger once just before a class and ended up getting some blood on a pair of dress pants,
they're rare collectors items so I was really worried about ruining them and my natural instinct was to go to the bathroom to do the same thing
