This is what I usually call chicken food. I don’t buy chicken feed. But now I have to try some of these.

OMG, I was surprised when you mentioned Tepache! It's delicious and good for the gut. It is one of our Aguas Frescas. If you out Tajin, it makes it even better! Tajin also goes good with any fruit!

I feel like it less about being frugal and more about respect for nourishment. Lost arts of using all parts of our food instead of relying on a factory to produce something.
This is awesome!!!

My brother once grew a watermelon that was only rind πŸ˜‚ so we had some watermelon time stir fry. Couldn't waste the time he spend watering the plan

I press and dry corn husks to use in place of parchment paper, or make rope out of them. You can turn so many fibers into cordage. Even banana peels.

I dont even like oranges, but making orange gummies by candying the peels is one of my favorite sleeper hits for that midnight urge

In Peru, We also save pineapple skin to boil it later and make "pineapple water" or tea if you want to call it like that, it is sweet and delicious too 😊

Love the tepache piece! I save the shells of shrimps/prawns, dehydrate them, grind and mix with spices to make shrimp flavor cubes.

I like to save all of my vegetable scraps and peels and use them to make soup stock! It enhances the flavor of any soup and adds in some nutrients as well

Not sure if they count as scraps or not but carrot tops (the leafy bits) can make quite a nice pesto.

I think more people should have your mindset. It optimizes for a world of sustainability and viability for future generations.

Pumpkin seeds.

Also watermelon rings can be candied like a bunch of other things. They can also be picked, turned into coleslaw, combined with things like cucumber for summer drinks and more. On top of animal feed

i like to save corn husks to dry out for tamales, but i also lovee to keep the corn silk to make tea! it’s so so good, especially with honey bc it ends up tasting like sweet cornbread. 100% recommend :)

This is awesome! In my house, my partner and I save up meat bones and random veggie scraps in a big freezer bag and when it’s full, we make delicious stock. (For those who don’t know, stock is β€œbone broth”.)

Potato skins air-fried and banana peels dried and blended for smoothies and plant fertilizer.
