Aswathama cannot be compared with cain. He was a great warrior who was comparable with even arjuna and karna in terms of skill in archery. He almost killed gatolkacha and once fought arjuna to a stalemate(till he ran out of arrows). He was a courageous, righteous and noble person. He was so distraught over the fact that pandavas had employed unfair means to kill his father and kauravas whom he loved like brothers. Though valorous there was no way he could defeat all the 5 pandavas in battle. even gods would struggle to do that!. At that point he resorts to treachery and commits a heinous crime. That leads to his downfall. He was only avenging his father and brothers. There was no jealousy involved like in the case of cain.
