The main crux of this argument is that by taking maternity leave, women must accept a lower overall total pay (not paid less per hour).
Then the question becomes: why are we penalizing bearing children? Doing so actively discourages maintaining a healthy population.
In turn, the only people who are hurt through this penalization, are people with uteruses. Sounds pretty discriminatory.

In a reasonably equal comparison of men to women in the same field with the same exp and other factors, women make a few cents more. It's negligible in the grand scheme of things, but there.
When we men work more hours, take less time off, take higher paying jobs, right for promotions, we earn more than women. It's not a wage gap, it's an earnings gap.

There really isn’t a gender pay gap me and my wife have the same profession and in the same position in said profession I currently bring home about 75,000 a year. She brings home 85,000 because she’s better than me. If your better you’ll get paid better
