See how to use TRIM function and Replace in Excel to remove leading spaces and extra text spacing in a cell. Have you ever ended up with a column of names in Excel where there is a space before the text? Here are two ways you can get rid of those extra spaces. One is using the TRIM function in Excel. Just type =TRIM open parenthesis, select the cell, then close the parenthesis and hit Enter. Drag the formula down. Then if you want to replace the formula with the text, hit Ctrl+C to copy, Paste Special…Values. The TRIM function is good if you have lots of extra spaces you need to get rid of.

Another way if you just want to get rid of the single space before the first name, just highlight those cells, click on Find & Select, click Replace. Then on the Replace tab, type a space in the Find What field and leave the Replace With field blank, and click Replace All.
