AI actually has a big dataset that it's trained on and through trial and error learns to replicate. this method is called reinforcement learning and basically it uses reverse-math and something to the effect of rolling down an error shaped hill to find the ideal parameters. this is different from just making a collage, which is from actual images. for text to image, i would imagine it's trained on the relationships between text and images, and using math to turn text into images. i am in no way for AI "art", but i was interested in AI before it got crazy.
