i’m glad you recognize that not everyone has a recycling system. im in a very small rural town in the middle of nowhere, US, so i cant recycle. the city doesnt offer it as a service, so i looked up a center near me and it’s several hours away. it’s not practical or affordable. i reuse everything i can.

idk how perfectly sustainable it is bc i'm still learning bit by bit but one that i really like is the toothpaste from ben&anna. it comes in a glass and you scoop it out with a little bamboo piece :)

I get uncle Harry’s brand toothpaste (clay/essential oil) from my local refill shop. They also sell it online in glass jars. The BEST! I can’t stand conventional toothpaste now it tastes so sweet

For the powder, they say dip it but honestly I put some in palm of my hand and then bring on my wet brush. The tabs are much more convenient 🦷

Toothpaste is the one I’ve struggled with as less waste. I have honest dental phobia. And I’m also celiac. I have found a safe cleaner, natural toothpaste I love that keeps my gums and teeth healthy. But it is in plastic unfortunately. This is one of those products I’ve taken on the karma of using the single use because I’m so scared of teeth cleanings and cavities 🤷♀️

My mom tells stories of watching her grandma (?) use powdered toothpaste. The would put a little on the counter and mix it with water into a paste then put it on her brush. It always sounded like the wild option to me and my bathroom is never clean enough on a day to day basis for me to make concoctions on the counter

You actually need a lot less toothpaste than you used in the first example to properly clean your teeth. It's more about the technique than the product. This can be helpful as well I hope 😗

Plastic toothpaste tubes, while hard to clean, are good for paint projects and can be cut up and used to hold cords together.

I use plastic tubes alternating with an Rx toothpaste unfortunately (my gums and teeth have issues, ha)....though I like tablets. I did join a Terracycle program for the tubes though. Some companies have brand specific programs and some programs accept all brands. I collect from my family and coworkers because otherwise I would be saving tubes for years before I ship it out. I still don't know one hundred percent how great Terracycle is, but I try when I can't pick low waste due to health or money. 🤷♀️

I'm a Colgate prevident girl! Using an extra fluoridated toothpaste has my teeth cavity free for the first time in YEARS. I'm sustainable in other areas but having no cavities is good on the wallet
