How to Clean and Lube Motorcycle Chain | Bike Chain | Bajaj Dominar 400 | 2023 | Motul C1 And C2

Cleaning and lubing a motorcycle chain is essential for maintaining the chain's performance and increasing its lifespan. Here are the steps to clean and lube a motorcycle chain:

*Materials and Tools Needed:*
1. Chain cleaner or kerosene
2. Chain brush or an old toothbrush
3. Grunge brush (optional)
4. Clean rags or shop towels
5. Motorcycle chain lubricant (choose the appropriate type for your chain)
6. Motorcycle stand (optional, for elevating the rear wheel)
7. Safety goggles and gloves (for protection)

*Step 1: Preparation*
Park your motorcycle on a stable surface and ensure it's in neutral.
Put on safety goggles and gloves to protect yourself from any splashes.

*Step 2: Elevate the Rear Wheel (Optional)*
Using a motorcycle stand or a center stand, elevate the rear wheel to allow easy access to the chain.

*Step 3: Clean the Chain*
Start by applying chain cleaner or kerosene to the motorcycle chain. You can use a spray or pour it into a container and apply it with a brush.
Use a chain brush or an old toothbrush to scrub the chain thoroughly. Pay special attention to the areas with heavy grime and buildup.
For stubborn dirt and grime, you can use a grunge brush, which has stiff bristles for more effective cleaning.
Rotate the rear wheel slowly to clean the entire chain.
Continue brushing until the chain appears clean and free from grime.

*Step 4: Rinse the Chain*
Use a clean rag or shop towel to wipe off the excess cleaner or kerosene from the chain.
If you have access to a hose, you can gently spray water over the chain to rinse off any remaining residue. Be cautious not to use high-pressure water, as it can force water into the chain's seals.

*Step 5: Dry the Chain*
Allow the chain to air dry completely or use a clean cloth to speed up the drying process.

*Step 6: Apply Chain Lubricant*
Once the chain is dry, it's time to apply motorcycle chain lubricant. Make sure to choose the right type of lubricant for your chain (e.g., O-ring, X-ring, or non-sealed chain).
Rotate the rear wheel slowly while spraying or applying the lubricant evenly across the chain.
Be careful not to over-lubricate, as excess lubricant can attract dirt and grime.

*Step 7: Let the Lubricant Set*
Allow the lubricant to set for a few minutes, as per the manufacturer's instructions. This allows it to penetrate the chain's links and rollers.

*Step 8: Wipe Off Excess Lubricant*
Use a clean rag or shop towel to wipe off any excess lubricant from the chain's surface. This helps prevent flinging while riding.

*Step 9: Lower the Motorcycle*
If you used a motorcycle stand, carefully lower the motorcycle back onto its wheels.

*Step 10: Test the Chain*
Rotate the rear wheel a few times by hand to ensure the chain moves smoothly and the lubricant is distributed evenly.

That's it! Cleaning and lubricating your motorcycle chain regularly, typically every 500-600 miles or more frequently in dirty conditions, will help extend its life and maintain optimal performance.

Have you cleaned the chain with a cloth before applying lube?

If not, then its better to do that else the lube will fly off

Instead of using these nonsense tools, just get a paddock stand. They're inexpensive and makes job like this very simple and easy to do.
Buying a bike worth 2+ lakhs and not getting a paddock stand which is not more than ₹2K is just absurd
