If he is OK with not having standard looking pickups... Railhammer pickups. Chisel humbuckers came stock in a Reverend Sensei guitar I bought years ago. He could always go the SD Black Winter, or Distortions.

I do own a lpc from 87 and it has Tim shaw pafs....i think they are very smooth and nice, if you want ro have something more acsessable go for lollars oder Joe Bonamassas Signature Seymour Duncans...all 3 expensive but worth their money

Duncan Black Winter or Fishman Fluence, heavier and more bite isn't too much of what he's looking for. Also depends on price range hell you could get real PAF if you got the money.

I have slash ap2 pros in mine and some Seymour Duncan 59s in another but the surprise pickup for me was black winter in a tremonti. They are so clean and can get so dirty it's a total workhorse.
