We hear nothing more of the Magi after their epic journey to see Jesus. After giving their gifts we are simply told that “being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way.”
It may be that Joseph and Mary used their expensive gifts to fund their own flight to Egypt. If so, the magi were probably unaware of this; unaware that they had helped preserve the life of the one they had come to worship.
