First symptoms of my inflammatory bowel disease showed up 2 weeks after I quit smoking. When I was diagnosed 2 years later the doctor talked about this. Since I was still nicotine free he did not recommend this treatment since there are other ways that are cheaper than cigarettes (if you live in a developed country with free healthcare)

I knew a guy, with a serious autoimmune issue.
It was ruining his life. Went to various doctors, prescribing all kinds of pills and elixirs and none worked.
Finally he got a new physician, who prescribed him a pack of cigarettes, a day.
The logic was, as long as he was healthy, his body had nothing to attack, but itself.
Giving it damaging cigarette smoke to combat, worked!
His autoimmune stopped attacking his body. Pain decreased and mobility improved....and he got doctor prescribed cigarette breaks!!
