Homemade Pulikachal paste recipe 👇
Ingredients:
Tamarind - 50gms soaked in hot water, made into a thick pulp
Dry red chillies - 5 nos broken into halves
Urad dal - 1 tsp
Chana dal - 1 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Salt - 1 1/2 tbsp or as needed
Gingely oil - 1/2 cup
Peanuts- handful
Hing/aesofotida - 1/2 tsp
Methi/fenugreek seeds powder - 1 tsp
To grind into a coarse powder:
Dry red chillies - 5 - 6 nos
Urad dal - 1.5 tbsp
Chana dal - 1.5 tbsp
Coriander seeds - 1 tsp
Sesame seeds - 1 tbsp (can avoid if making for auspicious occasions)
Method:
In a pan take gingely oil and roast red chillies broken into half. Once it turns black, add hing with urad dal and Channa dal. Add a handful of peanuts. Let it saute. Add the tamarind pulp. Then add salt and tumeric and let it boil.
Dry roast the ingredients mentioned into a coarse powder and throw it in. Once the oil separates, add a teaspoon of dry roasted methi seed powder.
To make Puliyodarai, add the desired amount paste to cooked and cooled down rice. You can garnish with more roasted peanuts if you like.
