Is it normal to be tired all the time after a stroke? Yes, post stroke stroke fatigue (neuro fatigue) is real - and it's not the same as regular fatigue. Your brain is working overtime trying to heal and keep your body working.
Think of it like this: your brain used to be a highway, now it's taking back roads to get to the same destination. It takes more fuel and more time.
This fatigue is different because:
Mental tasks and social functions can drain you like physical exercise
It doesn't improve with rest alone
It can hit suddenly, even after “light” activity
It's neurological, not just physical

What helps:
Plan demanding tasks for your peak energy time
Take breaks BEFORE you're exhausted
As frustrating as it may be, Don't fight it - work with your energy patterns

It's pure exhausting, and there is nothing to do but find the nearest sofa or bed and go to sleep immediately! Thank you 🎉

I have my stroke September 29, 2022. I became extremely fatigued right after the stroke and found myself sleeping most of the day. My friend is a nurse and she just said it is my body‘s recovery time. That is why I sleep a lot. So I went with that for a long time But even after four years, I find myself napping even though now I’m not extremely fatigued most days. I find it a win when I can go to the store and walk around for more than 10 minutes before asking my husband to say I have to go back to the car now before I fall down. I also have diabetes and sometimes not sure if it is the fatigue from the stroke or just tiredness from the diabetes. I feel like I will have to live with us for the rest of my life. Some days it’s a win if I don’t fall asleep all afternoon. Everyone out there that has had a stroke, don’t be yourself up if you need to have rest time or nap all afternoon, it is OK.

Always thank you Elyse. It’s good to hear other survivors can feel tired after the stroke. I get very easily exhausted and often want to sit down for a few minutes.
Exercise helps me to improve movement, but not to regain energy.
Always love your videos and teachings x

I have patterns and routines built into my life now but when I notice I’m not tired I try to take advantage of that and step outside of my routine or schedule and do the extra things that take extra energy and quick get them done while I have that extra energy🤷‍♀

Healing works better when stress is non-existent. Unfortunately, "healthcare" was trying to kill me off. And the LTD company from my former employer was stressing me OUT. 😫😫 I survived a hemorrhagic stroke on July 13, 202

I'm just coming up to my 2 years now. Poststroke, initially, I lost a lot of weight and muscle mass, and it's taken me a lot of time, too 2 even sit up straight, put my own now. With a lot of help, I'm beginning to work onwalking, with the aid of a hemie Walker.
It takes a lot of energy And yes, I do get tired very quickly. Nothing to be ashamed about.I used to get blamed for being lazy after explaining the above to most, I don't really care what they say. They don't knowor seem to want to understand how I feel

I have mitochondrial disease. It includes metabolic strokes. I sleep for like 14 to 16 hours after one episode. This can last for weeks. I appreciate your advice, it applies to other situations just thrombolytic strokes.
