Accutane caused me depression for atleast 2 years. Make sure you really need it. Some acne actually will not cause permanent scaring....some will....talk to your dermatologist and try to avoid any permanent damage and stay safe. I found out that my protein shakes were actually what was causing me acne (also multi-vitamins) I wish I would have just listened to my Mom because she was trying to tell me the shakes were causing it 🤦‍♂

If you have acne, reduce your sugar consumption, drink more water and find a good cream for your face. Trust me, it works slowly and usually not many people will care about it.

People who don't have bad acne will never understand. Takes a lot of bearing down and not caring about how you look to finally make it go away

(a lot of people also don't realize that it hurts way more than it looks, especially cystic acne)

Honestly, it also depends on what your skin type is and how your skin reacts to certain products, because my skin would not react to Benzoyl peroxide or SA, but Adapelene worked so well for my skin, even though it did dry it out a bit especially near my nose and mouth area. Its a slow proccess, but it really set me up for success with my skin in the long run.

I’ve used deoxycycline for malaria prevention, the doctor said it would do something about acne too, but Gohar’s description of it was pretty perfect.

I used accutane for about 8 months. It was the greatest thing that ever happend to me. My skin cleared up beautiful and removed all my scars. Only thing that affected me was the dry skin and bloody noses but other wise would use again if needed.

Last year I had horrible acne, it was itchy red and painful. I went to the dermatologist and I’m grateful that the treatment he gave me worked. I still have acne but it’s mostly skin colored and small. I still have to use the creams he gave me daily or it will come back but it’s worth it!

Yeah, my friend has acne, and takes Acutane. That stuff really hits hard sometimes. dehydration seemed to be a pretty big side effect for them bc their lips sometimes get chapped. Take care of yourself guys

use a rice mask, u can make it at home, it clears redness and should help w acne (did for me)
-wash and soak the rice
-blend it in a blender
-take it out
-put in a container and mix some honey in it
-apply on face as a mask
-rinse and dry
-use for about a week before disposal
it makes ur face dry so make sure to put a moisturizer after use. rice is good for skin and honey hydrates.

For people wondering, doxycycline is also used for people with Lyme. It can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, however, and cause you to get burned much easier if you’re on the paler side.

Edit: I actually have Lyme rn, put me in the hospital for a few days (wasn’t fun)

To anyone struggling. Tee tree oil. Use extremely lightly 2 times a day ish and be a little careful if skin is bleeding or open. Tee tree oil will clear it up in 3-4 days tops, and it is invisible and not unpleasant to use.

Though i know tee tree oil doesnt work as well for a select few people, and it isnt uncommon to have alergies. If you have never used it before, put a bit on your wrist and leave it overnight then if you dont get a rash you should be good. Also do your own research im only saying this because i had the exact same story that was fixed in 2 days of using it.

Dang, I'm struggling with the same issue right now. Here's some suggestions I have:

Update: So many of you guys have liked my comment and gave me suggestions! I've added them to this comment as well.

Update 2: This comment made from both my experience and the replies in the comments. Hopefully you'll scroll and see all of them, but if you don't want to, don't worry, I've added them to the main comment already.

1• Wash your face. Cleaning is really important. Doesn't matter- Towel, taking a shower, you name it. I suggest using water, following up with some skibcare porducts as well. Considering the products are for removing/washing off the oil on your face that causes acne.

2• Hot water. Fill a bucket (idk smth similar) with hot water. Take a towel and cover the back of your head. Put your face near the hot water and let the steam hit. The pores would open up, which is easier for cleaning- Like a mini sauna. Make sure the equipment you used for storing the hot water is as big/bigger than your face for better experience. If no, just covering the area where you have acne should be fine, but maybe just a bit less effective.

3• Find some acne patches outside in shops. They SAVED ME SO BADDDD- Seriously, you must at least buy a small box and try it yourself. Teatree trouble pad is super useful for me and had stopped TONS of outbreaks and I strongly suggest it.

4• Eat less junk food. French fries, chips, spicy food, and more. Avoid eating McDonald's or other fast-food restaurants too much. Eat less oily food as well. Sugary foods isn't an exception- In fact, someone in my replies pointed out it's just as worse. Try to avoid those. Maybe cut on drinking soda, for an example.

5• Avoid touching or scratching acne at all costs- Your hands are dirty as heck. It'll just make things worst. It might even cause the pores to close off if you scratch it too often, perhaps even leaving a permanent mark!

6• Sleep earlier. The same guy also pointed out he found out when he slept less early, like late night, outbreaks are much more often. I can relate to it, so I added it as well.

7• Doing sports. This might be a surprise for you and me, but exercising helps as well! Not directly, but it'll help with reducing stress, boosts Endorphins (It boosts moods and counteracts acne due to stress) And improves sleep.

8• Being hydrated. Consuming enough water can help with the skin's natural detoxification, flushing out toxins that clog pores. It also balances the skin's pH, maintaining a healthy skin mircobiome, which could in some-way help prevent acne-causing bacteria.

9• Stay positive! Mental health is also confirmed to help acne. Some acne are confirmed that they're formed from stress, sadness and negative emotions.

Negative effects and ways to counteract the side effects of each suggestion.

1• The towel might be dirty, allowing more bacteria to make contact with your skin

Sol: Everytime you finished washing your face, wash the towel twice by soaking it in water and squeezing the water out, make sure all the water in the towel is squeezed out before leaving it overnight. You should also put it into the washing machine for better cleaning. The period is about every 3-5 washes. 7 if you're going for the limit.

2• The hot water might cause suffocation for people with asthma, be careful!

Sol: Just try it once first. If you feel uncomfortable, try not to do the strat because your life matters more!

3• The economic conditions need to be good to buy these bad bois.

Sol: Try to ask your parents to give economic support, or use the other suggestions I've included in here!

4• Sugart goods are hard to stop, I know.

Sol: Maybe replace sweets and ice-cream with yogurt, Cola and soft drinks with juice and milk instead. In summary, just change your diet.

5• I know everyone had a scratching habit, even I do.

Sol: Use some fidget toys yo distract yourself. But most importantly, train your self-control. Search methods up on YouTube, that's what the internet's for.

6• Hard to sleep early due to habits and doom-scrolling.

Sol: Stop using all electric gadgets an hour before sleep... Etc etc. I remember there's a Gohar video which talked about how to sleep earlier.

7• Sweat when mixed with dead cell skins could lead to potential pore clogs. If oil and sweat are left on the skin, it can create an environment that allows bacteria to thrive.

Sol: Shower or at least wipe your body after each workout session. Wash away all the sweat you have!

8• Overhydration ig idk lol

Sol: Just make sure you're drinking the average recommendation of litres doctors suggest.

9• Idk what to name ts at this point

Sol: Try to look at positive sides out of the negative things you've encountered. (But don't you dare try to talk back saying you can't see the positives of your grandpa dying or what. HOW COULD YOU EVEN FIND HAPPINESS IN THAT-)

All these above are to prevent acne breakouts, which I'm experiencing right now 😭 But it's much better, and these methods won't destroy your wallet. Good luck !🤞

Edit: I'm going to bed rn, I might update this comment even more if more than 100 people noticed it or smth idk :P

Edit 2: I've just woken up, and holy, that's way more than 100 people. I'll eat breakfast first, then I'll update it :]

Edit 3: I've just finished this entire comment, I'm tired rn 😭 My fingersssss-

Bonus: This video teaches about acne treatment, provided by one of my replies below.

I tried so many things and it either didn't last, made it worse, or didn't do anything. I kind of just accepted that I would have acne for the rest of my life.

as a girl with hormonal/genetic/VERY stubborn acne for all of middle school and half of freshman hs, i had to take acutane. Yes i read all the side effects and was like...no- but i was so tired of having acne so after all the other pills and creams i finally went for it. And when i tell you how much it has helped me- i took 2 pills per day for 6 months. Yes while on it you purge and have dry skin/ joint aches/ nosebleeds/ bit when it's done? your face is beautiful! yes i still have scars but im more confident than i have ever been. Yes even though acutane effects suck it's totally worth it! don't try to talk yourself out of it bc the side effects trust me (keep in mind everyone's bodies react differently so mine might be better than your experience, vise versa) but in all don't hold yourself back!
