Africa’s spend on Information Technology is expected to be around USD 90 Bn by 2025...

And 60% of this spend comes from from just 5 out of the 54 countries in Africa...

South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Kenya and Ghana.

However, there is such a dearth of local talent and knowledge in computer engineering and IT support services in Africa due to lack of educational institutes providing training in this domain that practically most of this market is being catered to by Indians...

You don’t even need to be a big firm like TCS or Wipro...

Small 4-5 member IT services firms based out of India are taking up IT support services, ERP implementation projects and software training programs for African businesses...

Charging rates better than they get in India... and also entering a market with much lower competition.

Even if one doesn’t want to go after the big markets immediately, absolute whitespace countries to lap up projects in are Uganda, Ethiopia and Malawi... all in the much safer to work in zone of East Africa.

Among the largest accounting software providers in Africa is Tally, present in over 10 countries in the continent.

Zoho is replacing Google Workplace in a number of Nigerian startups as a much cheaper alternative... they came to Africa in 2019 and have a 60 member team here based in South Africa and Nigeria.

Their user base is growing over 50% year on year, and revenues by 73% in 2023 for Africa.

And the way to enter this space is partnering with Incubators, local business communities, BNI chapters, computer retailers.

I know enough IT service firms from India who are catering to clients in this market, and am still amazed at the number that is just not tapping into how vast a deal this is!

In fact, even for tech startups the likes of Khatabook... this is a market almost as big as India to tap into.
