You could also ask the same question about coal (in the 1980s), high grade steel (as we speak), shipbuilding, and the tens of thousands of skilled manufacturing jobs ditched since 1979. Free market ideologues don’t give a frig about uk workers or businesses…it’s all about making the most profit. They have no loyalty or sense of moral responsibility towards British businesses or workers. Farmers are just the latest in a long line of industries being killed off.
