In America, farming is considered an honorable job! All other jobs depend on the farmer. If all athletes, musicians, and politicians disappeared, how long will we last? If all farmers disappeared how long will we last? See- that shows you who is more important 😉

Adding to this, surnames in Japan are basically like surnames in the West. The best example is "Smith" meaning you were a smith.

This video inspired me to research my own last name

Apparently, my ancestor was the student of an Irish hermit 1500 years ago. The hermit had a deep connection with nature. The student changed his name to honor his teacher and education.

...it's weird because I've always loved learning, always felt connected to nature, and always have been a hermit

...maybe this is the reason 😊

I can't really tell what paternal ancestors were because someone decided use the name of our ethnic group instead of clan name as surname. But my maternal family has the surname Daimary, which used to be a clan name in the past. Dwi(water), dwima(great/big river) and ari(folk). So it seems my maternal lineage had something to do with big rivers.

I wonder if there was once a samurai who was so loyal, brave, and skilled in protecting his daimyo, that he was awarded many rice fields to manage.

Or maybe there was once a great battle that started in a rice field. (great wars can start literally anywhere)

To celebrate this great honor for his successes, the samurai changed his name and kamon to "Meshida"?

Just a theory ❤

...either way, you are very fortunate. They say Inari o Kami is the protector of warriors AND entertainers (ie, comedians)
...it seems like you are destined for greatness 😅

BONUS
...some believe that each grain of rice contains 7 kami...so a family that owns a rice field would be cultivating billions of kami
...that's got to ensure good karma for at least a few hundred generations?

Someone else already beat me to it but in America farming is a good job depending on how much you are earning to do the job.

I'm sad that you didn't follow the advice I gave you earlier. You're still saying "really" wrong. It's close to:リーリ and does not start with レ

Funny and interesting. I must be in minority because I never saw all Japanese as related to Samurai. But I have long believe you should never anger a sour man. (Idiot. That is related to Chinese not Japanese. You know if your going do a stereotype the least you can do is get the right stereotype.). It does it matter they are all Asian. (Ehhaheh. Hey Twist. Squaack.)
