1. Start with Leadership and Governance
DEI must begin at the top. Your leadership team should reflect the diversity of the community you serve. Diverse voices in decision-making roles ensure that all perspectives are considered. Assess your leadership composition and diversify your board and executive teams. This is key to making inclusive and equitable decisions at the highest level.
2. Embed DEI into Your Programs and Services
Don’t just talk about DEI—embed it into your programs and services. Evaluate your current offerings through a DEI lens. Are your programs accessible to all? Do they address the unique needs of diverse populations? Involve community members in program design to ensure inclusivity and effectiveness.
3. Foster an Inclusive Organizational Culture
Creating an inclusive culture goes beyond policies—it’s about fostering a work environment where everyone feels respected.
