The engines fitted to the lightning are the Rolls-Royce Avon afterburning turbojet engines. Most afterburning turbojets are rated at around 160 decibels stood from 50 feet away by the exhaust. It's nearly impossible to describe this feeling, you feel your eardrums expand, your brain rattles and the ground shake! And of course that immense BANG when the afterburner is engaged is unmatched!
