It's a shame that the Russians and Spanish pretty much erased the local population. Island foxes aren't really wild animals, there's at least 6000 years of evidence that they were kept as domestic animals. Specifically for companionship. They filled a niche pretty similar to cats. No wonder they nearly went extinct after the local humans disappeared.
