There’s another mindset shift that needs to happen regarding credit cards. A credit card is a tool to build the imaginary number that makes you a “reliable consumer,” and allows you to buy houses and cars and whatever property. A credit card isn’t extra money you have. You shouldn’t use a credit card to purchase or pay for anything if it’s not money you have. My husband has to learn that lesson the hard way, but he just turned 25 and I turn 24 next month, and we both have good credit.

For years I’ve used a system of writing down when our paychecks hit and what bills it’s going for. That way I’m prepared when it’s mortgage day!

I don't understand how people can live with credit card payments. If you use one, pay it off within 20 days, or don't charge the card at all.
99% of the time, when I used a credit card, I paid it off no later than 20 to 28 days later, with about a 1% exception.

So what if you are making so little money that you have an emergency and you need a living room window replaced? What if they are going to shut off your power? These are very real questions and very real situations that the whole Dave Ramsey team does not address. Side hustles are a great idea but some of them pay very little and if you need to get a babysitter in order to get a side hustle, you are defeating the purpose! I adore the Dave Ramsey principles and I live it but I have never been in that much debt either but I understand how it accrues.
