Идти лучше к центру, а это понты... когда резец подсаживается на большем диаметре то может провернуть заготовку, на меншем диаметре уже нагрузка меньше. То-есть если сли сядет резкц на большем диаметре то на меньшем диаметре еще дойдёт и дотянет если даже чистоты ни будет. А наоборот вертанёт заготовку.

I have faced hundreds of mild steel plates like this on a lathe to make die sets. Flat and parallel every time. Prefer to use a facing tool rather than a turning tool.

Pls be careful, if theres any imbalance (there is because youre cutting it) that thing will go flying sooner or later. The forces applied to your life center are insane. If you absolutely need this size and you habe no mill then id run this at MUCH slower rpms. That thing will go through your walls if it ever falls out. Pls be careful.
