Yesterday hubbykins gave the “Uuden Suomen kansalaisen puhe” keynote at the New Finnish Citizens celebration at Turku City Theatre. Every year, the event brings together those who’ve received citizenship in the last year or so, and 100+ people attended the event.
In his speech, Kristaps shared his journey: from learning Finnish back in Latvia as a teenager, to working early mornings delivering newspapers and late nights cleaning offices during his studies in Turku, to now building a career in higher education and a life together here in Finland.
For him, citizenship was never just about a passport. It was recognition that Finland truly accepts him as one of its own. ❤️
Here’s a small snippet from his 13-minute speech. I wasn’t able to attend the ceremony myself as I had to fly abroad for a work trip, but soo proud of him. 🥰
