Dry martinis are overrated. The wet martini is where it's at. My personal favorite: 2 parts Lillet Blanc to one part Mermaid Gin.

For the audience that's Bond coded: what the man orders in Casino Royale is making an ass out of himself in the high society circle he was in just so they loose their cool heads, the bartender figured it out and was enjoying the show (book). If you want to recreate the drink it's going to be exceptionally hard, since you'd need a 70%/140proof london dry gin, the Kina we have a substitute in Tempus Fugit's or Cocchi's, 50%/100proof vodka aren't an issue. It's shaken, because um, you're trying to tamp it down to be drinkable, that or want something bracingly cold.
