... and NO mention of probiotics use after a course of antibiotics, which is one of the most likely use cases. Statements on supplements being useful or otherwise, as presented in this short, are likely to be misleading if applied by users to OTHER situations. The research quoted in this short mentioned the use of probiotics in specific conditions and NOT ALL situations.

Oral probiotics are irrelevant to what happens at the end of the digestive tract but we know for a fact that they impact what happens in the gut and subsequently the brain.

While we don't know exactly what strains are beneficial, overall microbiome diversity is assocoated with better health and longer lifespan. Fermented foods in combination with soluble fiber foods are a good way to do that. As for curcumin... it can be used instead of NSAIDs in certain situations ( like patients with knee arthritis who can't tolerate NSAIDs and don't wanna go the steroid route),so maybe it's not completely wasteful.

Well as others have said fermented foods have long been associated with health and longevity. I would keep away from 'pills' and try live culture kifir, sourkraut etc.

We may not yet know "enough", but people have been eating probiotics (e.g. in fermented foods) for health for thousands of years. Has Brad really looked at all the evidence before counseling us that they are "wasteful"?

Seriously, what is going on. This is giving the wrong kind of message. Of course, getting nutrition from actual food is preferable BUT many can't due to our lifestyle. Supplements are beneficial and so are prebiotics - this is from someone that has avoided pills till only a few years ago.

Pendulum, a biotech, is studying probiotics including Akkermansia showing a reduction in glucose levels and A1c. It'll be interesting to see further studies.

I have had wonderful success with prebiotic. I added L Reuteri nightly on top of a blend of inulin, Benefiber and psyllium. One can make the claim that all this fiber has made me more regular and that the L Reuteri has no effect, I know that I feel much better.

I hear that probiotics don't work because they are killed by normal stomach acid and thus provide no benefit. How do we ever get any live bugs in our system then. We are hopefully inoculated with healthy biotics we get from our mothers. How does any bacteria infect us then of not from ingesting.
My tactic was to introduce the prebiotic with a friendlier git environment to give them a better chance to survive and colonize our gut. I don't have Crohns or IB... but I feel waaaay better.

They should be taken when someone has digestive issues, but focus should be on eating healthy foods. Yes probiotics can help with many things. Gut microbiome is linked now with Alzheimer and Parkinson's

Saccharomyces Boulardii Probiotics + MOS has made a huge difference for IBS type symptoms sometimes brought on by drinking coffee. All the difference and if I stop taking it it's no good even if I'm not experiencing stress.
My symptoms started after whacking my body with augmentin after a suspected sepsis infection.
