The Røde is more crispy but I think I'm so used to the sound of the sm58 that I subconsciously prefer it.

I got a Shure SM58 for my birthday in 1977...... I still use it at every show. I bought a spare several years ago as I was worried the 1977 would crap out. I ended up giving the spare away. I'll have the SM58!

My favorite thing about the SM58 is almost all of them look like they were spiked on the ground at some point and they just keep working

I’ve used Shure in my college concerts and karaoke nights and it survived! Definitely like Shure because of the sound itself.

Rode sounds a bit thinner in my opinion while the Shure sounds a little like it has a little bit more bass.

I trust Rode with more podcast and live speeches while I trust the Shure with live performances like bands and stuff.

Great video! Unfortunately, I had an SM58 die on me about a year back. The build was fine, just plugged it in one day and it wouldn’t work. Took it to a store and they couldn’t do anything as the capsule was dead and the mic was out of warranty BUT they offered a discounted Rode M1. In my opinion, it is a significantly better sounding microphone for live vocal performance even though it sounds very similar for recordings. I still think SM58 is a good choice because it is an industry standard and is known to be very durable and long lasting (ig my unit was a dud) but for (at least in Australia) about $40 less, it’s a brilliant buy and definitely something I’d recommend. I certainly haven’t found any shortcomings that the sm58 can avoid.

For the same price, probably wouldn't invest, but for $25-$50 cheaper you have my attention.

58, because any engineer worth your money should be able to EQ and troubleshoot it.

I'd probably go with the sm58 concidering how much the 57s are used to mic guitars

For stage work probably an Se V7 with the tighter polar pattern and the color choices at the same price as these two.
