I believe success is deeply correlated with purpose, and I think "crossing" it out of the equation definitely means that happiness won't last long

Damn I love this guy! I have no time for much of the "motivators" and "inspirational life coaches" posting their less than genuine self-help videos. But there is something about this guy that's very honest. Anyway - just my opinion š¤·š»āāļø

The real problem is the western idea of success which is being better than other people, an idea based on individualism. True success can be achieved every day and is tied to happiness, that is being a good person every day and slightly better than yesterday. That is the ancient religious or spiritual concept of success. Progress is part of happiness but not if you confuse progress with showing you are superior to others.

It is about what you start to define as success, if you don't have to sacrifice much of happiness then they can co-exist. Seems that the amount of success you are chasing does not leave room for happiness, which just means it is just a toxic amount of success.

Humans also pursue status, which seems to be very similar to success. I think there is a drive to seek this as an end, not just a means to get happiness.

If u r happy before success n if u sacrifice ur happiness for it to get happiness after success , won't that happiness be of a much greater magnitude
Whatever gives u happiness can be done at a larger scale which would give u more happiness

This is exactly who I was! I worked in a senior management role at one of the big American tech firms. I worked hard, got two promotions, and earned a lot of money, but deep down I was miserable and had seriously dark thoughts. But I left in 2018 and have since retrained and been working outside as a gardener and tree surgeon. I earn a fraction of what I did previously but I am so happy and every day I am excited to get out of bed and get to work outside in nature. Iām not saying that everyone should follow suit, but sometimes when chasing that promotion and the rewards that go with it, you can lose sight of what makes you happy.
