It’s easy to get lost with dense material. For any instructional, I’ve been following a three phase approach (Will and I figured this out):

Phase 1: The Download Phase

Watch the whole thing on 2x speed to index where everything’s at — like a library or search engine. Now that you know the structure and contents, it’ll be much easier to iterate on the learning of the material.

Phase 2: The Iteration Phase

Now you go try a move or set of moves (drilling and live/situational sparring), make note of where you messed up, and index back into the exact section of the instructional when you get home. Repeat this process for each training session. Start implementing the moves on lower belts and people of lighter weight, and then move up rank and weight until you’re comfortable with the mechanics.

Phase 3: The Evolution Phase

Now that the move is part of your arsenal, you keep refining it during training, but now you can move on to another move or set of moves and follow the same phases above. Your Jiu Jitsu has now evolved.
