In the early 1910s, there was a significant connection between women's rights movements, the prohibition movement, and excessive alcohol consumption in the United States. Women's rights activists of the time saw alcohol as a contributing factor to domestic violence, poverty, and other social issues affecting women and families. This led to their involvement in the temperance movement, which eventually culminated in the nationwide prohibition of alcohol.

In her book "Century of Struggle: The Woman's Rights Movement in the United States," Eleanor Flexner highlights the link between women's rights and the temperance movement, stating, "The alliance between suffrage and prohibition was sealed when suffragists became convinced that the power of women's votes, if put behind the forces for reform, would ensure passage of the necessary legislation." Women activists saw the prohibition of alcohol as a means to improve women's lives and protect their rights by eliminating the negative effects of excessive alcohol consumption.

Similarly, in her book "Women's Rights Emerges within the Antislavery Movement, 1830-1870: A Brief History with Documents," Kathryn Kish Sklar discusses the role of women in the temperance movement and their concerns regarding alcohol's impact on women's rights. She states, "Women reformers took up the temperance cause with a passion rooted in personal experience...The campaigns against drink underscored the fragile position of women, whose place and influence in the home were threatened by alcohol." The fight for women's rights and the prohibition movement were intertwined as both aimed to address social issues and create a better society for women.
