During the #winter months the #lake freezes over completely despite its water being saline. Pangong-Tso is the highest salt water lake on the planet, just FYI.
The region around the lake supports a variety of #wildlife including the Kiang- the largest of the wild ass's that can only be found on the #tibetan Plateau.
It was -21 degrees Celsius at #pangong that day with #snowfall and strong winds. Its the coldest weather conditions I’ve ever experienced. It started with a frozen fuel tank, snowfall on the way to Chang-la pass where the car was skidding due to ice on the roads. Jigme and Tashi proceeded to attach snow chains on the wheels, while we sat breathless and cold in the car. My last visit to Pangong-Tso was in the summer of 2008, 3 Idiots was yet to be released and the lake yet to be commercialised. Though its a very popular spot in the summers now, its beauty is indescribable in the winters. Unfortunately, our time at the lake was cut short due to the weather worsening.
