I grieved as each of my little birds flew off to college. Seriously I went a little off my rocker. But I’m proud that they’re parents now and I love grandchildren so much!!!

We're going through it now too and it's rough not living with your favorite people on the planet...

I remember seeing my daughter’s entire life flash before my eyes as I watched her walk the graduation line. It hit so hard and so fast. No more “do overs”, no more second chances, this is it, for better or for worse, she is grown. My heart was crushed. Wasn’t I just holding her newborn body and imagining all that would come? Well it came and she was grown before I realized it.

When I went to college my Mom started going here, there, & everywhere, all the time. She even refurnished the living room. When I came home on break, I said to her, "You couldn't wait to get rid of me, your last child, could you?" She told me, "Are you kidding? I had to shut your bedroom door because every time I walked past it & saw it perfectly clean (no shoes piled up in the corner) & heard no music blaring, I started to cry, for missing you. The house is so empty without you." I replied with tears in my eyes, "Thanks, Mom. I didn't think you cared."

Everyday the thought crosses my mind, how did I get here so fast? My oldest is 38, youngest is 34...been an empty nester for over 15 years now, did those years actually happen?

Raising my two boys is my favourite thing that I have ever done in my entire life, they entered university this year and I couldn't be prouder, but the first month I literally wandered around my house in the evenings aimless and sad… I know it's up to me to figure out where I go from here. I'm adapting as everyone has to, and looking forward to Christmas break!

If you know they are ready, and they don't go too far, and still come back often, it can be quite liberating and fun!

Life flies by. I spent so much of my youth working that I didn't realise that was my life. I'm not sure what I thought I was working for.
Lennon said it best - “Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans.”

When my brother and sister and I left for college my parents were thrilled. Things were different back then. (60’s) Different attitude towards children
