Cats don't actually want you to rub their belly when they turn over. What they are doing is being submissive as a sign of respect for you and they actually want you to pet or scratch their head as a sign of mutual respect. I found this out because of one of my cats, Mr Mooney. He would roll like that, exposing his belly and I'd go to rub it and yep, you guessed it, scratch! So after repeated attempts with the same results, I did a deep dive into reading about cat behavior. Sure enough when I stopped trying to rub the belly and gently respected him by scratching his head, he stayed on his back and pawed at me for more! We do this now and he'll even purr. Our other two cats will let us pet their bellies but according to research they're just putting up with it. They really want the 'respect' actions instead.π» Sorry for the long description but I felt it might be helpful and interesting info for cat aficionados in this wonderful community. πΊπ½πΈLots of love from Seattle β¨πβ¨
