For a Jew, no matter how distant one may seem, there is always a deep connection to HaShem that never fades. During the sacred time of Elul, this inner spark is reignited as HaShem reaffirms His covenant with us, using the thirteen principles of mercy to guide us. As we turn away from self-centeredness and refocus on our relationship with Him, our deepest desire to truly know HaShem is rekindled. We are reminded that in order to dwell with Him, we must humble ourselves.

The Torah gives us an example: just as an animal instinctively knows its purpose is to serve its master, so too do we come to realize that our sole purpose is to serve HaShem. In the same way that HaShem protects Israel from its enemies, He shields us from spiritual forces and heavenly beings that might judge us. HaShem is our God, ever-present and merciful, always ready to protect and guide us back to Him. Days of Awe, Seas Eyes
