Sorry Mark, I have reservations about this one. Firstly, you can go to the psrty with an open mind and hey, you might enjoy it🎉. You dont have to be a buzzkill. Sometimes, the right thing to do is to go, even if it isn't your thing, support your partner/family/friends/work colleagues. Otherwise, there would be no-one at funerals (except a few weirdos).
There's a fine line between being 'yourself and being selfish. Right now, so many people seem to be so self-obsessed they've forgotten the rest of the world.

The thing is, it’s not always about US, we would be so entitled and full of ourselves if we thought only of our own wants and needs. Imagine being on the other end of things, walk on the other persons moccasins and decide if it’s possible to be agreeable when it’s in best interest of all involved.

i feel what you’re saying 100% but i do think our time has value to other people whether we’re in the mood to give it or not. however, if i’d rather stay home but decide to go anyway, i make it a point to try to enjoy it or at least come with a positive attitude. but yes there are times when it is absolutely okay to just not go because our time is also very valuable to us.

This is potentially the worst advice you can give someone. Sure you will go to some parties and not enjoy it, but the point is that over time, sometimes with effort, you learn more and more how to enjoy it. The worst thing you can do is turn down parties cause you’re afraid you won’t enjoy them, which ends up in spiralling down with you not improving your social skills, and hence ending up not enjoying any of the parties, which will ultimately make you unhappy with life. Took me a year of therapy to understand and fix that in my life

I say no when I don't want to go and now they don't invite me to the things I'd say yes to now.
