It gutted me when they cut down Hockenheim. Those runs through the forest were incredible.

Honestly it's so sad to see many tracks get dropped off the calendar due to financial difficulties.I mean it's not just Hockenheim and NĆ¼rburgring that share this fateā€¦

I lived in Germany for a few years during the 90ā€™s. ( not far from the Nurburgring and Hockenheim ). Schumacher was huge he was on tv every other day and in the newspapers daily. They loved the fact that he came from a working class background. Iā€™m still in contact with some of my German friends and they said Sebastian Vettel didnā€™t have no where near the same following as Schumacher. Mick Schumacher was getting more coverage in the lower formulas than Vettel did during his Ferrari years.

That is not the only reason! No Sponsors were found so the price for Tickets raised enormous and so on

The thing is that race series like VLN/NLS, DTM and GTWC are still working really well here. For example 24H NĆ¼rburgring 2024 had an attendance of around 200.000 Fans. Way more than Spa and pretty much on a level with Le Mans. But the financial risk for these circuits to host F1 is just way too high. Germany is actually the only big country where the government doesnā€™t pay a single euro for this GP or even Motorsport in general. So without a big sponsor itā€™s impossible to host a GP in Germany. Because hosting an F1 GP nowadays is way more expensive than it was 20 years ago.

The reason why there isn't a German grand prix is because of money, that's it. The circuits can't or don't want to cough up the money asked by FIA/FOM to host one. They also don't get any support from the government.

A track to do it without financial support from the government is Zandvoort, but thats built on Verstappen. If he retires....

A real shame that nothing is being done to get such a great and historic racetrack back on the F1 calender.

Same will happen at Zandvoort F1 when Max is retired or no longer has a chance to win.

Sad. Hockenheim is a great track. I miss it from the games too.

My dad went to the 2005 hockenheim gp
Tickets were still pretty affordable compared to what we paid for our tickets of the 2024 Dutch gp

I was always surprised by the fraction of support that Ralf, Sutil, Timo, Sebastian, Nick and the Nicoā€™s received paled
in comparison to MSC. šŸ‡©

It's the same with Malaysia. The Sepang circuit is very much in the middle of nowhere and the locals are only interested in motorGP. The racetrack made losses as well hosting F1 races so it was dropped.

Few thoughts on this

Hockenheim before the cut early 2000 insane circuit
Nurburgring acting as Luxembourg gp and hockenheim as Germany gp in the same season šŸ¤©

The fact than Vettel, Rosberg (German champions) and Mercedes as brand didnā€™t bring fans as Schumacher did talks about the power of a person influence

I would say only verstappen bring that fire to the people in todays racing

(Iā€™m always surprised that hamilton doesnā€™t get the attention he deserves from British fans) happiness

And maybe Alonso as well get crowd hype in Spain

But well itā€™s another era itā€™s another F1 where money talks šŸ˜¢

Nah not fair comparison because the ticket prizes also more than doubled in that time. Also rebuilds/redesigns to the safety standards of F1 did cost a lot and narrowed the possible areas for spectators.

Though it'll be more competition for Red Bull (which I hate) Audi joining will hopefully make fans increase. 2 German teams, and a German driver.
