Nearly 20 years after his mysterious disappearance, the search for Samuel “Sammie” Boehlke has been renewed at Crater Lake National Park in Oregon.

Samuel was just 8 years old when he ran into the woods while walking with his father near the Cleetwood Cove trailhead on October 14, 2006. Despite multiple search efforts, he was never found.

Authorities say Samuel, who had autism, may have thought running was a game. His father recalls Samuel’s fascination with yellow pumice stones, which he called “gold.” Tragically, a snowstorm during the initial search hampered rescue efforts.

Now, nearly two decades later, search teams have returned to the area, hoping to finally bring answers to Samuel’s family. His mother, Kirsten Becker, and father, Kenneth Boehlke, both continue to hold on to hope for closure.

Samuel was last seen wearing a black-and-green striped shirt, cargo pants, a blue winter coat, and red suede shoes.
