Cleaning is something I’ve always struggled with. I still do. It’s not something I was taught or really grew up seeing. My mom was more of a “tidy up” kind of person and who could blame her raising 5 kids and working nights in the ER. Also having ADHD and struggling with maintenance tasks, it definitely was not something that was easy for me to pick up. Many seasons in my life I would buy clothes rather than wash them or throw away dishes rather than do them. I did not have a relationship with my Lord and was blind to my blessings.

The revelation of this one simple verse created a change in my mindset and completely corrected my heart posture. “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” - Colossians 3:23

Gratitude is a practice, it doesn’t always come naturally to us in a first world country, with a “keeping up with the Jones” social media mentality. It can be easy to forget how truly blessed I am to have a home, a family, friends, neighbors, and food to share. What a blessing it is to have lights, heating and cooling, running water, and a gas stove. That it’s actually a gift to have my health, my freedom, and a sound mind. Daily I try to thank God for everything he’s given me and brought me through and teach my children to do the same. Modeling a relationship with Jesus and treating every day like the assignment from him that it is.
