How do you treat an allergic reaction on your lips? I'm Dr. Manan Shah, I'm an ENT and allergist with Wyndly Health. When you have an allergy reaction on your lips, you kind of want to treat it the same way you treat any other allergy.

So first, you want to take something like Claritin, Zyrtec, or Allegra. That's going to decrease the histamine response and hopefully improve the response on your lips.

But second off, you want to figure out what's the trigger. So oftentimes it's food and the best way to figure that out is to do a food diary. Really think about what was it that you were exposed to and see if there's something that is repeatedly causing the reaction.

But also there's a thing called oral allergy syndrome which will also often cause like lip swelling or irritation. This is when you actually have like a tree pollen allergy. But what's happening is your body's mixing up the pollen or the molecules from certain fruits for pollen. And so when you eat certain fruits, you'll get irritation around your lips, but it's actually that you have an environmental allergy. If you'd like to learn more, please subscribe.
