Back in 1964, a group of scientists from the Institute for Medical Research in Oakland (California) compared the effects of combinations of proteins, fats and carbohydrates in a diet. Obese participants ate shakes for 10 weeks, receiving a constant number of calories (800, 850, 1200 - depending on their own weight). Every 3-4 weeks, the researchers changed the formula, varying the proportions of protein (from 14% to 36% of total calories), fat (from 12 to 83%) and carbohydrates (from 3 to 64%). All participants lost weight at the same rate with any combination of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. Solved a general calorie deficit.

It doesn’t matter what foods or dishes contain the calories. It doesn’t matter how much protein, fat and carbohydrates you eat – only the total number of calories eaten and burned is important for weight gain or loss.
