He was truly magnificent before he was dropped for no good reason . Badly mishandled by the BCCI. Then he returned to domestic cricket where he was still bowling well but was not selected for a longtime. Then he had a rotator cuff injury that wasn’t managed properly by the BCCI . This forced him to remodel his action. Normally that should have been the end of his career as most bowlers r never the same after re-modelling their bowling action due to injury. But he came back and had a decent career . But this forced him to lose some of his most lethal deliveries like the swinging Yorker, the outswinger and the leg cutter . He also couldn’t bowl the fuller length that he used to bowl before his injury . All this affected his bowling but he still did very well within his limitations . Also graciously stepped down once Zaheer Khan came into the scene . Normally ppl who have lost their best yrs due to sporting politics don’t walk away that easily and retire . But he was an exception even there. True gentleman cricketer. If BCCI had mentored and managed him properly when he first came onto the scene he could have been an all time great.
