Try drilling a hole in the center of the metal stud,then put the tie wire through the hole,and then secure the tie wire.

You should look into the caddy MAC2 clips. One of my go to for MC clips. Nothing wrong with using tie wire either.

I agree I think the Colorado jims suck majorly.. we use them for over 10 years now we have been using the CER 4 clamps a lot better..
